Steve is committed to ensuring everyone has access to the care they need. As state senator, he helped pass a law to ensure no one in Illinois is denied coverage because of a pre-existing condition and co-sponsored a law to cap out-of-control insulin prices. He will continue to advocate for policies that make affordable health care accessible to everyone.
Steve helped build support for a historic school funding reform bill that brought millions of dollars in additional funding to Rockford area schools. He also passed legislation to ensure that federal funding intended to assist low-income students is used for that purpose. Steve will continue to fight in Springfield to ensure all students have access to high-quality education.
Steve has worked with businesses to bring more jobs to the Rockford area. He helped improve the Rockford airport, which has helped attract and maintain logistics centers for Amazon and UPS there, adding thousands of jobs for local workers. As state senator, Steve will remain committed to bringing in more jobs for Rockford area workers.
Steve passed legislation to expand a tax credit that allowed for the redevelopment of vacant downtown properties, including the new Rockford Riverfront Hotel and Convention Center. He has also passed legislation to upgrade local youth sports facilities and secured $275 million for the development of passenger rail between Rockford and Chicago.
